1st two weeks of june -- i felt like an owl
thu-fri before camp on last mon was a mad rush.
that fri was like, 'ahhh...OGOd!' with help from my Saviour = provision of sis's help{calling up several printing and binding shops, editing of some stuff} + friend's help {buy paper, printing layouts} + extension of essays deadline.
sat = printed entire mag + spine of mag was accidentally cut off by printing uncle {like.. omG!} + extremely bad presentation for internal assessment {files were all over my desktop, no time to rearrange them....grace grace!!!} + external assessment was much better {still need abounding grace} + an encouragement from the external assessor to hone my God-given illustration skills. hahah..

third week of june = awesome his{tory} m{aker} camp! = best camp ever.... still need to sort my thoughts and reflect abt the camp.. hahaha...
thank God for a really cool rommie and bus trip companion.... eh... thank God for a chance to try peranakan food in melaka... thank God for a fresh reminder and conviction that my life is His and therefore, i live life with no worries knowing that He will do something great about it....

pam's new 'tortise readers' - air flown from the US by our dear Tree

pam treated me to this japanese yogurt drink from isetan's supermarket - $2+/bottle.

Mon and Tues were 2 of the most adventurous days of this year - carried really bulky stuff and came across 2 weird + talkative + helpful cab drivers.
The days before mon, i was actually extremely anxious.. wondering who could I ask for help... who could help me on mon to help out in my shoot and transport the chairs from a cafe near sch. On Sun, God provided - omma!

Rented this really huge backdrop for some photography for my mag - consisted of 2 stands and a really loooooonng paper roll {just imagine a skinny 3+metres long toilet paper roll}. I shocked to see how lengthy it was. I regretted renting them after less than 5 mins of carrying the paper roll - I tot I wasted $52 + time + effort just to shoot 2 plain-colored wooden chairs. the rental centre ppl told us that it would be impossible to take any bus/train/cab with such a long paper roll. I needed to get the stuff to sch{south bridge rd to pahang street}. Tried flaggin a cab, but it din stop to take us and so we made our way to city hall. amazingly, we managed to take the train. Alighted at bugis and the ppl in the control station were staring at me.. They must have wondered how did i manage to even take the train.

Really thank GOd for my beloved omma {elsa} who helped me for the two days - collection and returning of the backdrop + chairs. Without her help, I would have been.... On Tues, she even helped me buy a sandwich shop {raffles place} thinking that i just wanted it for breakfast. In actual fact, i needed it take pictures of it for my mag. It was another round of transporting the chairs and backdrop. Omma wasn't feeling well that day - had a bad case of diahorrea. And so when it came to returning the backdrop, omma wanted to take a cab to help me transport the stands to the centre while I carry the paper roll and take the train. Ha, I was dreading that journey - imagine one carrying this really long paper roll on her shoulders... ah, i wish i had a lorry... 'tian ah...' I muttered to myself.

Amazingly, while waiting for a cab with omma, 2 cabs stopped at where we stood waiting. One had passengers alighting from it whereas the other cab had its driver getting out of his driver seat enthusiatically to help! He spent about 5+mins trying to fit the paper roll into his cab. At many times, he kept saying that the paper roll was too long to fit into the cab.. Interestingly, he never gave up. Finally, the paper roll 'fitted' into the cab as it layed stretched diagonally across the cab with 40+cm of it jutting out of a wound down window. I was really relieved and truly, this was favor. Throughout the cab ride, the dirver wouldn't stop talking and asking questions... Omma jokingly said that the cab driver helped me coz he was interested in me. haahha! I can only say that this is favor from God!

'Monocle' is quite esoteric and brilliant in its design. The content is so rich in global 'briefings' and it opens my eyes to the world. It makes me dream of going to Iceland, Japan, Copenhagen, and many more. I have grown to like the magazine, 'Monocle' so much so that I would like to subscribe to it. Perhaps not now due to cost but definitely in future.

My mag project is making me learn a range of different stuff - art & design , fashion, etc. Especially since I'm thinking of the content of my magazine. I've been reading up on photography, men's magazines { i somewhat really find men's magazines alluring } , many other genres of magazines { food / women's magzines / travel / .....}, chancing upon really interesting websites which offers a different feel like Monocle's or Wallpaper*}
Definitely, by the grace of God, my magazine though primarily 'inspired' by these two of my fav mags, will not end up being similar to them.

Have received really unexpected reviews from Mr.G from sch, he was utterly surprised when he saw my drafts of my mags and commented that I have beome a different person - one that produced really 'mature' work. I'm comforted to hear that my mag is on a good track. Really, it can only be Jesus. Yea. No more a 'lazy & playful diploma student'. Indeed and i choose to believe that I am being transformed from glory to glory as I behold Jesus.

On a sidenote, how's your toe, chubby? You were reminded of me when you had the food in the wedding whereas pam reminded you of something else in the wedding? Haha.

Last week, we thought our fridge which had been serving us for the past 10 years had passed on.

For the passed 2 weeks or so, we could hear the disturbing sputtering sound made by the fan of the fridge. Slowly, the freezer no longer worked and then the chiller no longer cooled. Then on Saturday, I switched off the power supply to it. My ma likened this action to removing the life support.

My ma was anxious to buy a new fridge. And so we hunted for a new replacement last sunday - finally we settled for a smaller size fridge which would suffice our needs. No more 4 doors but 2 doors - a chiller and a freezer. In my mind, I deemed the replacement as inferior as it was visibly less smaller and didn't have an auto ice-machine. The fridge was slated to arrive yesterday.

However, much to our surprise, the 'old' fridge started working again when I switched on the power supply again. And it felt even colder than before.

The new one arrived on Tuesday morning and now, we have got 2 fridges.

'The older the ginger is, the spicier it becomes.'

Who wants the 'old' one?

Sipping lipton tea at a time close to midnight, Chubby recalled the times.
"How was I when I was in sec 1?" one quipped. "What? I was weird?" one exclaimed with much doubt.
It is funny how both pammie and i couldn't recall any.

Use a sound to describe your week, what would it be?

Oh, I got a haircut yesterday! Ha, it looks almost the same as the previous so it might seem more like a trim. But I decided to have my fringe pushed to my side. The hairstylist said that I just had to 'slowly' keep combing it the one side to achieve it. :D No more 'cheena' haircut in the eyes of chubby! haha!

What an experience we had at the flea - it's as if we are one step closer to having our own cafe-shop dream.

Pam & I spent the entire week preparing - from designing to packaging to preparing for the set-up day. Had a '4pmAssembly' meeting during the week...{We joked that 5pmAseembly became 4pmAssembly' as our 5th partner is away doing his masters} Due to commitments we had as it was Arrow week, we could only help to setup the stall and return to the stall at only 9pm! 15-20 mins after we arrived, the intimidating bouncer-looking people started asking us to pack up. Such a short-lived experience.

Big thanks to dong fen and wendy for tending to the stall!

We planned to sell everything at the flea but it didn't happen.

Perhaps it was the wrong target audience - consumers who were mostly interested in buying 2nd-hand stuff.

Though it was a huge disappointment as our scarves weren't selling much, some of us did make some moolah from selling our own 'products'.

'Notbuks' did fairly ok and raked in profits - very glad that the very favor was there to attract ppl to buy our 'notbuk' stationery. People actually appreciated the designs we had for the notbuks and were willing to pay for them! :D

Our dear friend, dong fen, had made badges and magnets for sale and only but two weren't snapped up. Cool right!

Ha, none of our friends visited our booth except for dong fen's as they were all busy.

Ohya, I spotted a stall which sells 'Helvetica' tees. The next time I see them again, I'm so going to buy it!

I'm looking forward to another experience when the opportunity arises again.

Last night's chinese new year church service's musical was awesome!

It's amazing how they could tell the love story of Ruth and Boaz while incorporating the 'lil nonya' concept into the entire musical.

Totally enjoyed it.

Eating chicken wings birthed forth a friendship.

It's a friendship between the tip of my nose and tiger balm.

Ha!

I discovered that the ability to smell food is directly proportional to my appetite.

I walked thru' the jap-products supermarket without my usual wants to buy any.

I consumed jap prawns that only tasted salty to me.

As I proceeded to consume a bowl of famous fish soup, there were the occasional hints of its yummy flavor. Thank God. More often than not, tiger balm will be whipped out from my bag to help its friend, my nose.

Mm, I shall recover my sense of smell by tomorrow's reunion dinner.

On a another note, I was privileged to attend a housewarmin' 'party'. Their house was pretty and cosy. Located on the 22nd floor, it was very breezy. Their toilets stood out the most as the toilets had pretty unique-lookin' tile cemented on their walls. My only regret of this housewarmin' 'party' was forgetting to take photos with the owners of the house before we left.

Greetings 2009!

It has been an eventful 1st 7 days of 2009.

On 2nd thoughts, the last week of 2008 was pretty eventful too.

Had lovely fun doin' random pursuits.

Christmas '08 was accompanied with the hustle and bustle of shoppin', doin' up decor, buyin' food, eatin' loads, not much of sleep, wii (much thanks to mr.bong! who managed a 2~am delivery of nanchuks),...., online movies.

Cg Christmas '08 was surprisingly good this year - very organized, fun, and the crib was o' so large. Praise the Lord!

Oh, and Christmas bash '08! 2 weeks of painting, cutting, tape & building boxes! Woah. Learnt much and enjoyed lots. Indeed, He is faithful in putting all the stuff tgt and makin' it successful!

I insisted that the button has already been pressed and there wasn't going be any difference if I kept pressing it.

She refuted, saying that by pressing more, the red light will appear and the green man will come on faster so we can cross the road.

Pissed, I turned away.

As soon I turned, the green man appeared.

Just as I took my first step, this woman bellowed, "you f***ing lady!"

"Make sure that when you need help next time, no one will help you!"

Many strings of explicit vulgarities followed after.

"What kind of f***ing student are you?!" "..........!!!??!!"

"It's not as if you have some physical disability?!"

I quickened my pace but her voice still was audible.

" What is your hand for then?!! To press your b*****?!"

Heard her laughing to her self.

"To press your n******?!!"

Omg!

Disgusted and afraid that she was walking the same route as i was, I walked even faster.

Stopped at another traffic light, I was relieved that she was gone.

Phew.

Another woman came up to me and commented that she saw me walk faster and followed me.

She witnessed and 'overheard' what the woman told me. She assured me that that woman was mad and walked away.

Strange.

I have never been scolded with such expletives before.

This must have been from the pit of hell. haha. I'm so amused.

I never liked writing out time management plans

as 99% of the time, I never kept to them.

LOST PUPPY

"Jie, did u see the puppy?"

"It seems lost ah.."

We crossed the road and observed the puppy's movements.

"Ah...! It's trying to cross the road and the light is green!"

Someone managed to grab it back to safety in the nick of time.

Spent the whole Sunday evening trying to get shelter for the puppy.

Calling up our cousin & friends, Entertained the thought of keeping it, Puppy was crying/hungry/thirsty, Pet lovers' centre, Sample food, lotsa water for it, SPCA, a group of ah lians & bengs, a couple whose friends were compassionate enough to want to adopt the puppy, a worker at pet lovers' ctr who insisted on keeping it, and finally... miraculously, the puppy's owner brought the puppy home.

VINTAGE FINDS

A visit to an old lady's house with my ma's friend was an eye-opener to the living conditions of some elderly. I went there with the purpose to take a look at some stuff that she might have so she could sell to me. Her one-room Chinatown flat was filled to the ceiling and cluttered with her belongings. Stacks of cloth were strewn all over the floor. Some were stained and yet she claims that they were clean. Others were stashed beneath her sofa. While taking photos of the potential buys from her, she showed me photos of her younger days. Her regrets of a single life makes her keep telling me to find someone and get married. She tells me of how she fancies Ang mohs and Eurasians and also of her dream to get married to someone rich so she can live a life of riches. While having 'zhi cha' (assorted dishes with rice) with her, ma, ma's friend and pam at a hawker centre, I hear of her crush on another elderly. My ma told told me that it's one-sided and he prefers Cheena girls coz they are pretty. And this old lady claims that she doesn't like him coz he doesn't speak English. Ha, amusing ah.

INVADERS

"Bed bugs feed exclusively on blood."

This is one-episode of my life that I don't think I will forget. 420SGD spent on getting the pest control people to come to our house to spray some residual. And more moolah is spent on getting plastic bags ( trash bags/ bio-degradable ones/ white ones) and all kinds of tapes ( double-sided/scotch/ masking) , washing the clothes with hot water. Double-restoration for my family and finances! No more sleepless nights.

OMG. PRAISE THE LORD!

Almost got tricked into sending my iPod shuffle to a scammer! Thank you Jesus for the lack of peace in sending the iPod shuffle straight away to the 'buyer'. Can you imagine not getting paid for the shuffle and yet having to pay 189.40 SGD for the shipping cost for the buyer?

ASSESSMENTS

well. assessments have come n gone. I was quite ashamed of presenting particularly 4 of my works especially on the day of internal assessment which was the first day of assessment. I wanted so so much to re-do those projects or at least touch-up on them.. but simply had no time for them. oman, haha. When asked to explain the rationale of my design, i wud be like.."eh.." hahah... in my heart, i was wondering how can anyone be so proud and stand by the work she has done so 'ugly-ly'. After that day, i went home to sleep (finally!) as we cud no longer change/edit what we have presented on that day. waking up at 12+am, i decided to watch some tv.. haha, felt a sense of a lost of direction. It hit me that there wasn't anymore to do nor anything more i cud do as i started to throw away the used mounting boards n cut-strips of paper. It dawned on me that the answer to my question as to why can anyone be so proud of...... haha, it 's God grace- in my weakness, His strength shall be perfected.

So on saturday, the day of external assessment, nervous as i was, i presented the same works n each time as i passed those mounted boards of 'weaknesses' to my assessor, i reminded myself... "grace grace- undeserved favor" :D

a week of sleep-less nights and mornings, a week of yy cafe's ice coffee, cans of mocca/ lattes, and no starbucks, no library, less food - guess what chubby, there was even one day where i cud only eat at 8pm when tanghoon helped me buy a piece of bread. I thank God for classmates whom He has blessed me with - tanghoon n richelle. Classmates who had stood by me n encouraged me thru these past few weeks. Readily helping me n reminding me to finish my countless projects. Thank God for tanghoon who helps to comment on my work nearly everyday where i wud email her my works n she wud just give her comments. Oman, i feel so blessed.

Last night would be the last time i stay up with tanghoon n conversing with her thru msn to complete our sch work, haha.. walking away from sch as we signed the form to make our 'exit' official, i took along with me precious memories of God's goodness towards me - of how when i thought i have failed badly as a student n how he reminded me of his grace n this life is His, leaving me nothing to fear nor worry abt. of how he has taken care of my decisions to study design com. of how when even tanghoon nor my sista could help me do my projects, he was 24/7 with me. of how in a short span of a few days, he gave me ideas thus causing me to finish quite a number of projects. and of how i studied in an area filled with good food. of how........awesome. awesome.

anyways, today tanghoon, richelle n i finally got to fulfil our after assessment activities - have lunch specials at CURRY FAVOUR, shop around, take photos with our vivitars n demekins! it was so relaxing,. haha. i felt as if we were on a foodie spree today, i spent 30 bucks on jap food---browsing thru Meidiya at liang court n another mini jap supermarket at Central. Come to think of it, we started our shopping spree last saturday where we went Taka to buy the Hellolulu bags on promo and also Paragon's Muji to buy our shoes. ahah. We 3 bought the same shoes! how cool!

enjoyed myself! Praise the LOrd...it has been such a looong time since we slowed down our paces n just enjoy.

hi chubby,

my church camp was awesome man-- truly felt like a holiday and it made me feel rested. We managed to kayak on day2 of camp. it was beautiful as we witness the sunrise while on our kayaks. I din take my camera with me on my kayak lest i dropped it into the waters. O how i wished i did bring my cam with me la. Pam was so brave to take on the single kayak while i shared a double with elsa as it was Elsa's first time kayaking. As i laid back in my kayak n looked up to the skies, glanced right n left. It reminded me of how great god is-- how vast his love is for us. it's like on the right, i see the waters and the sky and on my right, i see the same.. it's amazing how god holds this earth and how the water is 'stuck' or should i say gravitational towards the centre of the earth.

This week is a week of much lesser lattes, (only had 2 cups!) and more books.

Now that most students have finished their exams, the reference library is a quite empty with lesser ppl.

Besides not being allowed to bring in your own textbooks ( which I dun have) and notes ( I also dun really have), the library is a place where you can truly have a pleasant time using your lappie and mulling over books.

The coldness gets into ya if u sit there for more than 4 hrs. But with a pull-over, it feels much much less cold. I like the array of design books and magazines on their shelves but not the fact that 99% of the typography book are found one floor below. So troublesome man. Haa.

oh, and i lost pam's cashcard and my SGD 6 ++ inside. I left it in the slot after photocopying some stuff and only remembered about it about 1 ++ hr later. Then, it was gone!

oh well...

So chubby, I have spent my whole week at the library! :D

i was talking to my classmate via msn abt her battle against the bed bugs.

the bed bugs have been the guests of her house for ages. They love to bite her.

She mentioned that she finds lil' splats of blood on her bed in the morning when she wakes up.

Why? Because she 'flipped' too much while she sleeps.

During lunch (seafood combo at bugis basement---it's like a food haven now after renovation), my classmates were discussing about each other's workload before our assessment (our really BIG DAYS) arrives on 27/28June. And we've got so much to do esp for myself. hahah.. :D 29 more days to church camp!!! I told ya that I aim to finish everything before camp right?

Oh ya, my classmates n i were talking abt our lives after ur grad. haha,.. all of us seem to have some plans abt gg overseas. e.g. one of them will be travelling around asia, perhaps europe and other places for like 3 months before returnin back to scotland. how cool. guess what, he plans to travel on his own. Oman, i want to go somewhere too! like have multiple holidays in a row. wow, how happening can that be, chubby? SUPER UBER HAPPENING! india???! hahaha. awesome! a cafe dream

I was 10mins early for school today and my lecturers and classmates were pleasantly surprised. Today's class was kinda relaxing as I just had to propose my final project's idea to my lecturer. Guess what is it about? i'm uncertain if i've told u about it.

It's about designing a corporate identity for a new cafe - a cafe that I would want to set up in a few years' time or maybe less ( which means that there will be more than enough funds flowing thru my bank). i have alrdy decided on my cafe's name but shall not elaborate here lest anyone copies it. hee..

Am feelin' so full w korean food swimmin in my stomach. oohoo!

So, today I decided to start the day early. Had a hot cuppa of caramel macchiato at 10+am. Simply awesome as it wasn't as crowded as usual. Did a scan of the whole of starbucks while at my table and realised that most of the people there use a macbook/mackbook pro. haha. cool!

The only thing or rather person that sightly irritated me for was the person who sat opposite me at the table (that long conference-looking table) , she took her laptop cover n just plopped it so so near to my cuppa as if she has low-spatial awareness.

Had chicky rice w pammie at purvis st then elsa came only later. pammie n elsa left later for production n I left early for sch! nice, got to borrow like 2 design books frm the nlb. Ha, chubby, wouldn't it be great if we own a library of books esp. if they are design books. haha, there will be truckLOADS of pretty pictures for me to see. Omy.

Basically, the whole time that I spent in front of my mac today was trying to model my matchbox in a 3D software. haha, I was like lettin' out mini shouts of 'damn it' coz it was simply quite challenging to model such a supposedly simple object. ----- shall show it to u once i'm done modellin' it. HA.

After class at 6pm was a production meetin' for our june camp. yummy, we had soupspoon for dinner while discussin'... ( haha, u know food is so essential to me yea) and that discussion lasted for like 2 plus plus hrs. I'm kinda hyped up for the camp! so excitin', chubby!

When you dwell on God's Word and start seeing the best in situations, little by little, one thought at a time, you are redirecting the flow of that river. At first, just a little water will be redirected out of the negative stream and trickle over into that positive stream. It may not look like much at first, but as you continue to reject negative thoughts and redirect the flow, as you choose faith instead of fear, expecting good things and taking control of your thought life, then little by little that negative stream will dwindle and the positive stream will flow with much greater force. If you'll keep it up, that old negative eventually will dry up, and you will discover a whole new river flowing with positive, faith-filled thoughts of victory.

I was reading this and felt like.. 'Whoa'.. I'm being captivated by Jesus yet once again.

This excerpt was taken from the awesome, higly recommended book called, 'Captivating', by John and Stasi Eldredge.....

And here it is that we begin to experience him not as the God-way-up-there, not the God-of-Sunday-mornings, but as the pursuer of our hearts. As Lover.

Not even we, ourselves. We are made for such a love. Our hearts yearn to be loved intimately, personally, and yes, romantically. We are created to be the object of desire and affection of One who is totally and completely in love with us.
